The new Baojun SUV will hit the China car market sometime next year. The Baojun SUV is likely based on the same Buick Excelle platform as the Baojun 630 sedan. GM hasn’t officially said anything yet on the platform, leading to some speculation the Baojun SUV could be based on the same platform as the Buick Encore.

Most Chinese media however, and we agree, think that platform would be too expensive for the Baojun brand which is aiming at the cheap end of the market. The 630 only cost between 62.800 yuan and 73.800 yuan, the Encore will start somewhere between 40.000 yuan and 170.000 yuan.

The SUV will be the second car for Baojun, a sub brand of minicar maker Wuling. Wuling is a joint venture between General Motors, SAIC (aka Shanghai Auto)  and Wuling Automotive.
