Chevrolet Malibu will get a 1.6 turbo in China

The Chevrolet Malibu will get a 1.6 turbo engine in China, the turbocharged Malibu will debut on the Chengdu Auto Show late this month. The Chevrolet Malibu is made in China by the Shanghai-GM joint venture, it was launched in February and is currently only available with a 2.0 or a 2.4.

The 1.6 ‘Ecotec’ turbo is developed by Opel and poops out a decent 180hp. Price will start around 190.000 yuan putting the 1.6 turbo in the middle between the 2.0 and the 2.4. Fuel consumption is a low 7.5 liters per 100km. Smaller turbocharged engines are becoming very popular in China especially since fuel prices are going up and will likely continue to rise.
