Volkswagen GTI Cabriolet hits the Chinese car market
The Volkswagen GTI Cabriolet has been launched on the Chinese car market. There is only one; priced at 388.000 yuan. Sales will start with a limited edition called ’66’, only 66 examples will be available and only in red. The GTI on pics is an early bird, I found it on a parking lot not far from Volkswagen’s headquarters in Beijing.
The Volkswagen GTI Cabriolet is imported into China unlike the 5-door GTI hatchback that is made locally by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The GTI Cabriolet marks the first time Volkswagen offers an open Golf. Convertibles are not very popular in China due to air pollution and endless traffic jams. The Eos is available in China but sales are slow. The speedy GTI could make convertibles a bit more desired.
