Yema as applied for patent on the design of a new pickup truck, and the images promptly leaked from China’s famously leaky patent bureau. The yet nameless vehicle looks nice, with a front similar to the Yema T70 SUV and a trendy crease over the side of the bed.

The images show a crew cab – short bed but Yema will offer other variants as well. Power will come from a 1.8 turbo petrol with 160hp and 215nm, and the company will also offer a “large displacement” diesel engine.

The new car marks the first foray into pickup trucks by Yema in recent times. The move is understandable. The market for pickup trucks is growing fast as more on more people in smaller cities and in the countryside swap their trusty tricycles for something more fancy on four wheels.

I can’t help but notice that the designs of this truck is similar to the old Subaru Baja sold here in the US in the early 2000’s. It seems Yema bought the rights to the Baja and made some cosmetic changes.
