Today Tesla announced on its Chinese website the official launch of the Model Y Standard Range and started accepting reservations. The starting price for the Standard Range version is 276 thousand RMB (42 500 USD). The range is 525 km, the top speed 217km/h, and acceleration 0-100km/h is in 5.6 seconds.

Aside from the single motor and rear-wheel driven Standard Range version, Tesla’s current models are Long Range for 348 thousand RMB (53 700 USD) and Performance for 378 thousand RMB (58 300 USD). Both later models are dual-motor all-wheel drive.

The appearance is the same as we are used to with Model Y, with size 4750/1921/1624mm, and the wheelbase 2890mm. Two types of tires, 255/45 R19 or 255/40 R20, will be provided.

In the US, the price of Model Y starts at 53 199 USD. In Germany, it starts at 58 620 EUR (69 000 USD). These are Long Range models with dual motors. The German version has a 505 km range.

The price is indeed lovely; I didn’t expect it so low. Also, the difference between made-in-China Standard Range and Long Range is only 0.6 seconds in acceleration 0-100km/h (5.6 vs. 5.0 seconds) and 69 km in range (525 km vs. 594km). Many Chinese users on Weibo are already discussing if it is worth the 70 thousand RMB (11 000 USD) difference. The deliveries are supposed to start in August.

Edit: The previous version of the article mentioned that deliveries are supposed to start in December. After publishing, we obtained information that August deliveries are highly probable.
