Today, we get the first glimpse of Changan‘s future, the Changan C385. Despite the bland name, the C385 is a great-looking EV sedan with lots of exciting tech.

Lagging behind its peers, Changan has a lot of catching up to do in the EV game; to catch up, Changan (C) has joined forces with Huawei (H) and CATL (N, Ningde Era) to develop the CHN architecture. Since the C385 is the first vehicle to sit upon the CHN platform, Changan has to get this right.

From photos of the C385’s preproduction release, the exterior is quite stunning. Featuring aggressive DRLs and a sporty facia, the C385 has a clean look that should age quite well. Also, small overhangs and great proportions on the side profile give the vehicle a premium, almost sports-car-like stance.

Like all modern Chinese vehicles, the Changan C385 has a rear light bar; the 3D effect looks great, but we think the bulges are writing checks it can’t cash! Oh well, pobody’s nerfect.

With partners like Huawei and CATL, Changan promises some pretty impressive features. Here’s what we know:

Firstly, an Automatic parking assistant (APA) allows the car to find enter a parking lot and park autonomously; it’ll also pick up the passengers at the touch of a button!

Secondly, an electric, high-frequency pulse heating system allows for a 40-70km gain in range by rapidly warming the battery.

Finally, advances in the motor promise >95% efficiency; with 3-5% gains in mechanical efficiency and 5-8% gains in electromagnetic efficiency.

As the Changan C385 is still in development, no word on price, range, or other specs is currently available. Will Changan catch up to its peers with the C385? They certainly have some good cards in their hands. Stay tuned to CarNewsChina to find out more.
