We will remind you that this pickup truck was spied several times during road tests in China, covered with heavy camouflage. Previously, it was reported that it will be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid variants. As for the market launch, it was scheduled to 2024. Additionally, there were rumors that this truck will become a part of the freshly baked new brand under BYD called Fang Cheng Bao (F-Brand). Now, thanks to the international delegation that reached the BYD’s office, we have a chance to get to know this truck better.

BYD pickup truck exposed in video

As we can see in the video, the BYD pickup truck was shown to the international delegation. We aren’t sure from which country it has arrived. But in general, the fact that BYD displays its new product to some overseas partners hints that this truck has some strong exporting ambitions. According to industry insiders, its main overseas markets are Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Speaking about the pickup truck itself, it is still covered with thick camouflage. But now, we can estimate its dimensions. It seems that the body length of this unnamed truck reaches 5.3 meters. Thaks to the body-on-frame structure, it has a notable ground clearance and height. It looks like it is higher than 1.8 meters. With the door opened, we can see that the body color of the testing truck is actually white. The delegation also checked the engine bay. Here, we can see an ICE engine and high-voltage wires. So, it is officially proved that this truck is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain (DM-i or DM-p).

And of course, some delegation members had a chance to drive the BYD pickup truck. Inside, it has a three-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom. It actually looks like a unique part. Behind the steering, we can see an LCD instrument panel. Moreover, behind the instrument panel sits the HUD system (Huawei’s AR-HUD). In the center console, we can notice the standard BYD floating screen that can rotate portrait-landscape. Under the monitor, we can notice two air vents. In the center tunnel, we can underline a wireless charging pad, a retractable gear selector and differential lock buttons. The set of physical buttons looks similar to the Fang Cheng Bao SF

More spy shots and info about the BYD pickup truck

At the same time, with the presentation for an international delegation, spies were lucky to find these trucks parked on the street and in an underground parking. First of all, we can notice that this truck stays at the same parking with the Fang Cheng Bao SF SUV. So, we may guess that it will also become a part of the Fang Cheng Bao brand. On the other hand, it still has a large BYD logo in the front end. So, it can become a part of the BYD brand.

The rear axle of the BYD pickup truck is surprisingly represented by an independent suspension. On the other hand, most of trucks have springs there. We can see that this vehicle is positioned not as a “work horse” but as a comfortable car for a weekend drive. Here, we can also notice that this vehicle has an electric motor on the rear axle. Next to the e-motor, we can notice the exhaust pipe. So, it is easy to guess that it has the DM-p powertrain on board. We will remind you that it has a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE for 139 hp and two electric motors for 489 horses. Its total output reached 615 hp.

Editor’s comment

In China, pickup trucks are rapidly becoming more popular. Lots of manufacturers launch the new products, and BYD isn’t an exception to a rule. On the other hand, the domestic demand in pickup trucks is still quite low, comparing more conventional SUVs and sedans. It means that BYD can possibly count on overseas markets with their new product. There is a chance that it will be sold domestically as the part of the Fang Cheng Bao brand, but its international version will be sold as a part of the BYD brand. At the moment, this mysterious truck looks really promising. We will keep an eye on it, so stay tuned!
