What should you do if you haven’t got enough money to buy the Toyota Alphard? Weiao solved this problem by launching Boma. It is an electric copycat of the Alphard. Sound promising, but in fact, it is a city car the size of Smart Forfour. On the other hand, it is available for purchase for just 39,900 yuan (5,500 USD) in China. Today, its sales and deliveries have started in China. Let’s get to know this vehicle better.

First, we will remind you that Boma is the first model in the Weiao brand. In its turn, Weiao belongs to the Hongri Electric Vehicle Company, that was launched in 2014. This automaker specializes in R&D and manufacturing of small electric vehicles. However, the mass production of the Boma was outsourced. As a result, ZX Auto, a Chinese maker of pickup trucks, will manufacture it.

All you should know about Weiao Boma

As mentioned, the Weiao Boma is an obvious copycat of the Alphard. It has the same front end design with a huge grille, lots of chrome trim and triangular elements in the front bumper. Its headlights are also similar to the Japanese MPV. Anyway, the Boma isn’t an MPV in any way. In fact, it is a four-door city car with dimensions of 3517/1495/1660 mm and a wheelbase of 2495 mm. It rides n 15-inch wheels.

Speaking about the power output of the Weiao Boma, it is represented by a single electric motor on the front axle for 41 hp. Its top speed is limited to 100 km/h. As for the range of the Boma, it has two ternary (NMC) battery options. The first one has a capacity of 11.9 kWh, good for 130 km of CLTC range. As for the second battery, its capacity reaches 18.5 kWh (200 km CLTC). Moreover, in the future, Weiao plans to launch Boma with 300 km of CLTC range. This version will get to its customers in December 2023.

Now, it’s time to speak about the price range of Boma. The entry-level version costs only 39,900 yuan (5,500 USD). With this price tag, Boma is quite simple. It hasn’t got parking radars, airbags and a touch screen inside the cabin. However, even the top-trim level Boma with the 18.5-kWh battery hasn’t got airbags. So, it looks like driving Boma isn’t a good idea in terms of safety. Anyway, even the most expensive version of Boma costs just 51,900 yuan (7,175 USD). So, it is quite an affordable vehicle. In China, it will rival the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, Changan Lumin and Chery QQ Ice Cream.

  1. There’s more Nissan Dayz in it (the body) than that attempt at an Alphard face. The body very obviously copies the Nissan Dayz/Mitsubishi eK.
