Today, July 12, the first mass-produced car of Chery’s eQ7 electric SUV officially rolled off the production line. The price is expected to start at around 150,000 yuan (20,900 USD) and launch later this year. In addition, “eQ7” is only a temporary name; the final name will be revealed in the near future as part of a naming campaign in which Chery is asking the public to help name the eQ7.
It is worth mentioning that the eQ7 is not only Chery’s first vehicle based on an all-aluminum platform, but it is also Chery New Energy’s 660,000th vehicle that officially rolled off the production line.
The eQ7 adopts a design language called “Super Digital” (数字超体), with slender split headlights on both sides, through-type taillights, a suspended roof, and blackened wheel eyebrows and side skirts, but still retains the traditional door handles. As a mid-sized SUV, Chery eQ7 measures 4675/1910/1660mm, and the wheelbase is 2830mm.
Power comes from a 155 kW rear-wheel drive motor and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Its maximum speed is 180km/h and provides 4 driving modes, 3 steering modes, and 2 braking modes. According to previous declaration information, the eQ7 has a pure electric cruising range of 512 km. Because it is based on an all-aluminum platform, the overall torsional stiffness reaches 30,000 Nm/deg and the body frame weight is reduced by 30%, which further improves the battery life, according to Chery.
Inside, Chery eQ7 adopts the popular dual-screen design for the instrument panel and center control screen. The steering wheel is flat-bottom. Other interior configurations include voice control, 64-color ambient lights, an air filtration system, automatic temperature control, and more than 20 level 2 advanced driving assistance functions. The seats also come standard with heating, ventilation, massage, and electronically adjustable leg rest.
