Recently, Chery announced that its Tiggo 8 Pro Champion Edition will launch on August 8 in China with a price range of 119,900 – 154,900 yuan (16,700 – 21,600 USD). A total of five new models will be offered to consumers to choose from, powered by a 1.6T or 2.0T engine. As a facelift model, the Champion Edition’s appearance has undergone minor adjustments. ‘Tiggo’ is the name of Chery’s SUV series.
Positioned as a mid-size SUV, the Tiggo 8 Pro Champion Edition measures 4745/1860/1745mm, and the wheelbase is 2710mm. The new car continues to run on 18-inch (235/55 R18) or 19-inch (235/50 R19) wheels. New exterior and interior colors are added, namely, gray and light brown.
The front face is renewed with a polygonal grille in which the grille interior is blackened and decorated with honeycomb elements for embellishment. The Chery brand logo positioned on the top of the grille can be lit up. The sharp headlights on both sides are connected by a chrome stripe. In the rear, the popular through-type taillights are not absent. A spoiler is newly added. The 1.6T model has two exhaust outlets with one on each side, while the 2.0T model has four exhaust outlets with two on each side.
Inside, the cockpit adopts a dual-screen design consisting of a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel and a 12.3-inch central control screen. Infotainment is supported by Chery’s Lion operating system with a built-in Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. Below the central control screen is the air-conditioning control panel and outlets. In addition, the Tiggo 8 Pro Champion Edition is equipped with Chery’s first head-up display for information such as vehicle speed, navigation, and mobile phone control, according to the carmaker.
Other configurations include an 8-speaker audio system and an electronic stability program (ESP). Furthermore, the level 2 advanced driving assistance system is available for high-end trims.
The new car continues to provide 5-seater and 7-seater layouts. The seats are all wrapped in imitation leather. The driver seat can be adjusted electronically in six ways for all trims. In the high-end trims, the co-pilot seat can be adjusted electronically and supports heating/ventilation.
Power comes from a 1.6T or a 2.0T engine, offering a maximum power of 145 kW or 187 kW, and peak torque of 290 N·m or 390 N·m, respectively; mated to a 7-speed DCT. The 2.0T model provides a four-wheel drive system in addition to the standard two-wheel drive system.
In July, 20,440 units of the Tiggo 8 series were sold in July, making the cumulative sales from January to July reaching 117,799 units.
