On June 14, BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao off-road SUV brand officially released a set of images for its upcoming Bao 3 all-electric SUV. The Bao 3 is the mass-produced version of the Super 3 concept car and the third model in Fang Cheng Bao’s “583 hard-core series”. The launch is expected to be later this year with a price tag of around 220,000 yuan (30,300 USD).
“583” refers to the Bao 5, Bao 8, and Bao 3.
Three different exterior colors were revealed, namely, green, white, and black, which matched the previously released camouflage images. Judging from the images, the appearance of the Bao 3 is much more conservative than the Super 3 concept car. BYD also claims that the appearance is inspired by Star Wars.
The Bao 3 might also come with a vehicle-mounted drone, but still needs to be officially confirmed by BYD at this time.
Earlier on June 13, the Chinese MIIT announced that the Bao 3 obtained its sales license and released several vehicle specifications. The Bao 3 measures 4605/1900/1720 mm with a wheelbase of 2745mm, a curb weight of 2150 kg, an approach angle of 25°, and a departure angle of 28°.
Positioned as an off-road SUV, the popular external square storage unit design is not absent. From the side, the Bao 3 features hidden door handles, five-spoke rims, and roof luggage racks. Both the front and rear wheel eyebrows are equipped with thick guard plates. The side skirt is decorated with silver panels.
Power comes from a four-wheel drive system, with the maximum power of the front and rear motors being 110 kW and 220 kW, respectively; matched with BYD’s Blade batteries. The battery capacity has not been revealed at this time. Furthermore, the top speed is 201 km/h and the car runs on either 235/60R18 or 245/50R19 tires. At the same time, the Bao 3’s 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time may be 4.9 seconds, based on the declaration image.
