Additionally, the higher spec versions come with 128-line lidar from Hesai. According to Leapmotor 50% of presales are to families with two or more children, and 65% are three-generation families. Deliveries will commence next month with a target of 2,000 increasing to 5000 in August.
Buyers have a choice of six colors: Starlight Silver, Starlight Purple, Skylight Grey, Pearl White, Metallic Black and Glazed Emerald. The C16 has a strong family resemblance with the C10. It has through-type headlights, and a closed grille but the overall shape is more muscular. It rides on 21-inch wheels.
Inside the car has a 14.6-inch centrally mounted infotainment screen along with a 10.25-inch instrument panel. The center screen has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip which controls functions such as the 360° surround view and voice control. There is also a face ID recognition function. The interior is available in a choice of white, orange or purple.
Rear passengers get a 15.6-inch entertainment screen which folds down from the roof. Second row passengers get electrically adjustable captain type seats which offer 145° lying down along with heating and ventilation. The small tray tables which fold from the back of the front seats are adjustable via voice. Meanwhile, the third row has been designed to maximize comfort with a claimed 947 mm of headroom and the backrest can be adjusted by 10°. Third row passengers get a 120 mm wide armrest and there is also USB Type C charging. Access to the third row is via a 160 mm wide center aisle. Apparently, the upholstery is a baby-chewable silicone material! The front and rear use double-layer soundproof glass.
Lidar is only on the range toppers and see the car not only equipped with 128-line Lidar but also an Nvidia Orin X chip. There are a total of 30 sensors and theoretically the car can achieve L3 driving assistance.
Range-extended versions use a four-cylinder 1.5 liter engine with maximum power of 68 kW. The electric motor is mounted on the rear axle and provides up to 170 kW power and 320 Nm of torque. Battery capacity is 28.4 kWh. Pure electric range is 200 km (CLTC) and the combined range 1095 km. WLTC fuel consumption is 6.19 l/100 km whereas using CLTC it’s 5.4 l/100 km.
The all-electric version has a 67.7 kWh battery and also a more powerful motor with 215 kW power and 360 Nm of torque. Maximum range is 520 km. 30-80% charging takes 15 minutes. It should be noted that the C16 is only available as a rear wheel drive car.
Currently there is no news as to whether the C16 will be one of the models offered in Europe. Although Leapmotor’s T series is meant to be the one more export-oriented, current plans call for the C10 to be exported to Europe.
