At this year’s Chengdu Auto Show, Dongfeng’s Aeolus L7 EV variant started pre-sale with a price range of 130,000 – 150,000 yuan (18,300 – 21,000 USD). The official launch date is expected to be in late September. It is worth pointing out that the PHEV variant was launched in May this year with a price range of 128,900 – 156,900 yuan (17,800 – 21,700 USD).
For the exterior, the EV variant continues the design of the PHEV variant. The front face adopts a closed grille design, with a through-type light strip on the top, which is connected to the narrow light groups on both sides.
In the rear, the roof is equipped with a spoiler and high-mounted brake lights. The through-type taillight has been blackened. Red reflective strips are integrated on both sides at the bottom.
From the side, the roof has a slight curvature. The dual-color body creates a floating roof effect, coupled with hidden door handles, blackened wheel eyebrows and side skirts, and multi-spoke 18-inch rims.
Positioned as a compact SUV, the size of the Dongfeng Aeolus L7 EV is 4685/1900/1617 mm, and the wheelbase is 2775 mm, which is shorter than the PHEV variant while the other dimensions remain unchanged. The curb weight is 1740 kg.
Power comes from a 160 kW electric motor with a peak torque of 310 Nm, paired with Dongfeng’s self-developed 62.3 kWh Mach battery pack, providing a CLTC cruising range of 518 km. The official fast charging time to replenish the battery from 30% to 80% is 28 minutes.
Inside, the interior adopts a black and orange color scheme, which is eye-catching. There is a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel, a 14.6-inch suspended central control screen, and a D-shaped steering wheel, supported by the WindLink OS 3.0 car system and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.
In July 2024, Dongfeng Aeolus’ sales volume was 8,039 vehicles, a month-on-month decline of 26.36% compared with 10,917 vehicles in June this year. In particular, 3,966 units of the Dongfeng Aeolus L7 PHEV were sold, an increase of 150 units compared with the sales volume of 3,816 units in June this year, ranking 127th in the overall vehicle sales in the Chinese market.
Dongfeng Aeolus aims to achieve 100% electrification by 2024, launch at least two new energy vehicles every year, and release at least eight new energy vehicles within three years.

I hope they have different options for the interior. That orange and black is definitely a love it or hate it scheme. Some people will definitely be put off.
