Chinese regulator (MIIT) exposed battery and powertrain specs of the BYD Xia plug-in hybrid minivan. It will offer a 36.6 battery suitable for 145 km of CLTC range. The BYD Xia multi-purpose vehicle will start sales in China this year, with a starting price of 300,000 yuan (42,300 USD).
BYD revealed the Xia minivan at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 30. It was previously rumored to be called Tang Max or Zhou. But BYD named it Xia after the oldest Chinese ruling dynasty, underlining its flagship status.
BYD Xia battery and range specs
Previously, the BYD Xia minivan was said to have an electric range of 200 km. This information leaked online as this MPV was seen in China during battery management system tests. The stated range number was written in the datasheet. However, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) exposed the BYD Xia minivan with a smaller range number.
According to the regulator’s filing, the BYD Xia has a 36.628 kWh LFP battery on board that weighs 331 kg. So, this pack takes 12.5% of the car’s curb weight, which is 2,650 kg. The electric range of the BYD Xia is 145 km (CLTC). For comparison, the Denza D9 DM-i MPV (see specs) from BYD has two battery options: 20 kWh for 103 km and 40 kWh for 190 – 200 km.
The BYD Xia has a 1.5-liter ICE under the hood. Its peak power output is unknown. However, the MIIT revealed that the fuel capacity of the BYD Xia minivan with a drained battery reaches 6.5 L/100km. Most likely, it is a turbocharged BYD472ZQB engine with a peak power of 115 kW (154 hp). This ICE usually matches with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor.
More about BYD Xia
The BYD Xia is a large MPV with a distinguishing Dynasty design language. It has a large grille, a chrome-plated element, and elongated headlights in the front. From the side, it adopts a single taillight strip. The Xia boasts hefty dimensions of 5145/1970/1805 mm with a wheelbase of 3045 mm. It is 105 mm shorter, 10 mm wider, and 115 mm lower than the mentioned Denza D9.
We can tell from the previous spy shots that the BYD Xia adopts a seven-seat interior with a 2 + 2 + 3 layout. Its center console stays in line with other recently launched BYD cars like the Qin L sedan or Song L DM-i crossover. It has a large suspended screen and a D-shaped steering wheel. Its other features are a DiPilot ADAS system, a DiLink 150 cockpit system, and a DiSus-C electromagnetic suspension system.
The BYD Xia will enter the Chinese market this year with a starting price of 300,000 yuan (42,300 USD).

90 miles range ,you need to treble that range at least for it to work as a transportation vehicle
It’s a plug in hybrid. You have another 1000km of petrol range after running out of EV range.
