On September 20, the Smart #5 five-seater all-electric SUV was officially opened for pre-order as the brand’s largest model to date, starting at 245,000 yuan (35,000 USD). The official launch will be at the end of October.

The appearance followed Mercedes-Benz’s “Sensual and Sharp” design philosophy, according to the official.

Eight exterior paints to choose from: Saturn Beige, Terra Green, Pulsar Ruby, Meta Black, Grain White, Cyber ​​Silver, Laser Red, and Future Brown. The Smart #5’s dimensions are 4705/1920/1705 mm, with a 2900 mm wheelbase.

The D-pillar has a luminous logo. At the same time, outdoor adventure kits including a roof laser searchlight, roof luggage racks, two small side backpacks, and climbing ladders on the left and right sides are present. The towing capacity is 1.6 ton or 1600 kg.

The Smart #5 is built on Geely’s SEA architecture, supports 800V, and provides single-motor and dual-motor versions. The single-motor version is powered by either a 250 kW (335 hp) or 267 kW (358 hp) electric motor. The former uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and the latter uses ternary lithium batteries.

The dual-motor version is divided into the standard trim and the Brabus performance trim. The former has a comprehensive maximum power of 432 kW (579 hp): a 165 kW (221 hp) front electric motor and a 267 kW (358 hp) rear electric motor. The Brabus performance trim has a comprehensive maximum power of 475 kW (637 hp): a 165 kW front electric motor and a 310 kW (416 hp) rear electric motor. The 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 4.9 seconds. The battery is the ternary lithium type.

Two battery packs of different capacities are offered: 76 kWh and 100 kWh, providing ranges of 570 km, 660 km, 670 km, 720 km, and 740 km. Additionally, the car’s 4C fast-charging technology can replenish the battery by 500 km of range in 15 minutes, according to the brand.

Six interior colors are available such as Lightyear Brown and Ouasar Olive. Wood elements are also incorporated into the design. The 13-inch 2.5K dual screen is eye-catching, along with a 25.6-inch AR-HUD and a 10.3-inch LCD instrument panel, powered by an AMD V2000 chip. The operating system comes from the smart OS 2.0.

The sound system is supported by 20 Sennheiser speakers. A detachable portable speaker is also available.

The cockpit intelligent voice assistant is called Leo.

There are 34 storage spaces throughout the interior, as well as a 72 L front trunk and a 110 L storage volume under the trunk.

In terms of safety, the Smart #5 is equipped with the smart Pilot Assist 3.0 advanced driving assistance system.

Furthermore, Smart claimed the #5 is the industry’s first to be equipped with a 233-inch automotive-grade full-color laser projector, with a peak brightness of 2000 lumens and a resolution of 1080P.

  1. The light designs in the front and the back of the car makes me angry at the designer’s university professors who let this person pass. It’s certainly not a “sensual and sharp”, as they want to call it, but rather a missed opportunity.
