Last month, Geely announced its new NordThor 2.0 system, a second-generation PHEV system designed to compete with BYD’s DM 5.0 technology. The launch car was the Geely Galaxy Starship 7. Today, thanks to a government ministry, we know more about the second model that features the PHEV system.

The L6 is not a new car, but all new cars and major changes to the configurations of existing cars need to be approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The dimensions of the L6 remain the same at 4782, 1875, and 1489 mm (l/w/h), along with a wheelbase of 2752 mm.

Sales of the L6 began in September 2023, and the car is only available as a PHEV. Currently, it is available with either a 9.12 or 18.75 kWh battery pack. So far, there is only one listing for the NordThor 2.0-powered version, which would seem to replace the smaller battery pack version. The Galaxy L6 EM-i has a pack with a capacity of just 8.5 kWh. The battery pack uses lithium iron phosphate cells.

All-electric range as quoted by the regulator (WLTC) appears to be unchanged at 48 km. However, the curb weight is now only 1570 kg compared to 1680 kg for the current 9.12 kWh version. Furthermore, fuel consumption with a drained battery reduces from 4.55 l/100 km to 3.8 l/100 km, which means that the new version has a considerably longer comprehensive range. The Geely Galaxy Starship 7 claims over 2000 km and the L6 should be able to better this.

The PHEV system is based around the BHE15-BFN 1.5 liter engine which has a maximum power of 82 kW. Details of the electric motor were not announced. However, at present the car uses a 107 kW motor with 338 Nm of torque.

The L6 comes with a choice of 16 or 17-inch wheels. Interestingly, there appears to be an optional spoiler which looks quite sporty!

The new car will most likely replace the version of the L6 currently listed at 99,800 yuan, and we should expect the price to be very similar.

It is possible that the new model will change the interior to resemble the new look introduced by the Starship 7, which would mean a new steering wheel and having a floating horizontally oriented infotainment unit.
