Chery reported on November 13 that exports for 2024 had exceeded 1 million. This is the first time the company has ever achieved this and sets a record for the speed of a Chinese manufacturer achieving the feat.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to October, China exported 4.1 million passenger cars. Chery accounted for nearly 940,000 of that total, meaning that nearly one in every four exports is a car from Chery.

To mark the millionth export, Chery held a ceremony at the wharf in its home city of Wuhu, Anhui Province, where 332 Omoda 5 models were loaded onto a river transport bound for Shanghai. These will then be loaded in Shanghai for the sea crossing to Belgium, where they will arrive about two months from now.

Cumulative exports for Chery are now 4.3 million, making it the first Chinese brand to achieve over 4 million.

This year, Chery’s SUVs have done particularly well, with the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, Jetour Traveler, and Jetour X70 being star export models.

Editor’s note:

There has always been some controversy over whether SAIC or Chery is, in fact, the larger exporter. Chery is usually said to be the largest exporting Chinese brand. SAIC’s exports are, to an extent, dependent on the MG brand, which is not strictly Chinese. SAIC, as we have previously reported, is not doing well this year.

Chery’s export success is yet more proof that despite the market showing no signs of actual consolidation, a handful of winners are rapidly emerging, with the rest struggling for relevance.

  1. Ask Chery about top export markets. It will be Russia by far, more than half of exported cars and Iran. SAIC has completely different mix of markets. No1 is UK, 2nd market is Australia. No presence in Russia. Volume is volume, but journalists should pay attention to such details.

    • Does it matter to which country they export? Export is export no matter where. Plus, it’s all thanks to western companies for pulling out of Russia and allowing them to dominate one of the largest car markets. Also, Chery’s export markets are Europe, Central Asia, Australia, South America, etc., not only Russia. It’s better to rely on countries that are friendly to you rather than countries that are imposing tariffs on you.

  2. Thank you, China. The Germans (BMW, Benz, Audi etc) are now feeling the heat. They are forced to look at their backs as sales have massively dropped. Chinese vehicles have the best affordable offerings. We are now spoiled for choice at a cheaper price point with modern sophisticated features. Chinese vehicles will definitely dominate the auto industry, I am happy that we can now afford fully loaded array of high end / top of the line Bells & Whistles in cars.
