Between January 23 and January 27, Nio surpassed 100,000 battery swaps daily for five consecutive days, including a record-breaking 119,765 swaps in a single day on Saturday.

The record-breaking day was Saturday, January 25. The increased traffic at the swap station was caused by the upcoming Chinese New Year, when people moved to see their families. The CNY holiday is between January 28 and February 4. However, most people will stay on vacation until February 9, and some factories will operate at a minimum until the end of the month.

On Saturday, Nio saw an average of 4,991 swaps per hour or about 83 swaps per minute. Each swap station provided roughly 37 swaps daily.

During the peak day, Nio shared that 5,000 of the 119,765 swaps contributed to the Onvo brand. About 40% of Nio swap stations support Onvo vehicles.

Shanghai-based EV startup operates 3,106 swap stations in China, and cumulative battery swaps reached 64.3 million today.

Those numbers were confirmed today in the internal letter of Willia Li, Nio’s CEO and co-founder., who said daily battery swaps exceeded 100,000 for five consecutive days.

Nio also has China’s largest privately owned charging network, with nearly 4,400 charging stations, offering 25,000 charging points. Despite this, 80% of the power charged into Nio EVs on highways was from battery swap stations, Nio said on the first peak traffic day on January 23.

Nio group sold 221,970 cars in 2024, up 38.7% from 160,038 units in 2023. The 2025 target is 440,000 units, of which 220,000 should be the Onvo brand, and the rest should be Nio-badged cars and the new entry-level Firefly EVs. In 2024, Onvo sold 20,761 units of its only car, the L60 SUV, launched in September.
