BYD sold 300,538 electric vehicles in January, up 47.5% from the same month last year but 41.8% down from December 2024.

Regarding passenger vehicles, BYD sold 125,377 battery electric vehicles (BEV), up 19.1% from January 2024. BEV sales made 42.3% of BYD sales, down 9.9 percentage points from last year.

Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales reached 171,069 units, up 78.7% from January 2024, demonstrating their popularity last year in China. PHEV sales comprised 57.7% of BYD sales, up 10.1 percentage points from last year.

Of 300,538 units, 296,446 were passenger vehicles, and 4,092 were commercial vehicles and buses.

BYD produced 327,864 vehicles in January 2025, up 49.1% from last year. It also installed 15.511 GWh of battery capacity into EVs.

BYD exports soared to 66,336 units, up 83.3% from last year, making it a new monthly record.

BYD sales data include BYD-badged cars and all its brands, Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and Yangwang.

Yangwnag sold 286 vehicles in January. The premium brand sells two cars – a U8 “water-floating” SUV and a U9 “dancing” supercar.

Fang Cheng Bao sold 6,219 vehicles, up 19.5% from last year. Denza, a former joint venture with Mercedes-Benz, sold 11,720 vehicles, up 29.2%.

Aside from subbrands, the best YoY performance had BYD-badged cars from (Dynasty and Ocean series), as the company sold 278,221 of them, up 50.3% from last year. The cumulative BYD sales of electric cars reached 10.9 million units.

The lower January sales and increased exports are due to the Chinese New Year holiday, which effectively started on January 27 and ends on February 4, leaving the last week of January with minimum sales. Most of the people will return to work on February 10.

BYD grows its exports from China, but also EV plants outside China. In July last year, the company completed its EV plant in Thailand with 150,000 units annual capacity, and by the end of 2025, it plans to complete another massive 150,000-capacity plant in Indonesia.
