Huawei revealed game-changing augmented reality HUD in China

Huawei revealed new information about its latest XHUD-AR augmented reality head-up display on February 3 in China. The new system effectively identifies and marks surrounding vehicles and pedestrians, adapts to night driving, and filters 95% of AR icon offset.

Huawei first introduced its augmented reality head-up display at IAA Mobility 2021 in Munich, Germany. Their AR-HUD created a 70-inch virtual image displayed 7.5 meters in front of the driver. In four years, Huawei seemingly improved this system. The latest version of their head-up display is called XHUD-AR. It supports multi-dimensional coordinate conversion and real-scene fitting.

More about XHUD-AR

The main improvement of Huawei’s XHUD-AR is the real-time rendering, target tracking, and anti-shake algorithm capabilities. The system also fuses virtual and real space for a better user experience. As a result, the AR real-time navigation marks always point to the target direction of the physical world.

The HUD system also filters over 95% of AR icon offsets caused by road bumps. Thanks to the implemented trajectory prediction algorithm, the AR icons adjust their position in real time. So, the picture remains smooth and stable. Another feature of the XHUD-AR is a wide range of functions:

  • Adaptations to night driving scenes;
  • Warning of vehicles in blind spots;
  • Pedestrians marking;
  • Merging, deceleration, and braking prompts;
  • Obstacles detour prompts.

Currently, Huawei supplies its augmented reality head-up displays to a wide range of car manufacturers, including SAIC, BAIC, Seres, Changan, Chery, BYD, and JAC. The adoption of the brand-new XHUD-AR will further enhance the comfort and safety of these vehicles. And Huawei will secure its position as the top-tier head-up display supplier. The new AR-HUD technology will further boost the ADAS system. More about Huawei’s system as we get it.
