When it comes to EV battery safety, most car manufacturers showcase their technology through crash tests or PowerPoint presentations detailing their engineering achievements. But not Xiaomi. In a recently released video, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun was seen dropping a watermelon from the 6th floor of their factory.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s battery pack is well-protected
From that height, it seemed inevitable that the watermelon would burst on impact — but the watermelon didn’t. That’s because the watermelon was covered with a “bulletproof coating” designed to withstand punctures, tears, and abrasions.
The same technology is applied to the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s battery pack, preventing it from being damaged upon impact.
Moreover, Xiaomi has incorporated structural, thermal, and electrical safety measures into its CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery system, such as a 14-layer protective reinforcement with ultra-high-strength steel beams, large 7.8m2 active cooling system, aerogel insulation, AI-driven Battery Management System (BMS), and cloud-based monitoring.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra features unmatched performance and power
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was launched in China in February 2025, with a starting price of 529,900 yuan (73,110 USD). It is the Beijing-based company’s flagship sedan, boasting an eye-watering 1,138 kW (1,526 hp) and 1,770 Nm of torque from its dual HyperEngine V8s and single HyperEngine V6.
All three motors are powered by a CATL-sourced 93.7 kWh ternary NMC battery pack with 5.2C DC fast charging. It takes just 11 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, providing a CLTC-rated range of 620 km.
According to Xiaomi, the SU7 Ultra can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 359 km/h.
Other key details of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra include its dimensions, which are 5115/1970/1465mm, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. The massive rear spoiler, measuring 1,560 mm in width with a 240 mm cord length, works in conjunction with an active rear diffuser, generating 285 kg of downforce at high speeds.
With such immense power, every Xiaomi SU7 Ultra that rolls off the Beijing factory line is equipped with a limiter, capping its top speed to 140 km/h and power output to 900 hp. However, drivers can unlock the full 1,526 hp after covering more than 300 km.
