The GM’s Chinese joint venture SGMW launched the Wuling Hongguang EREV in China. It has become the cheapest range-extended minivan, starting at 68,800 yuan (9,400 USD). The Hongguang EREV has up to 1,000 km of mixed range and 50 km of CLTC electric range.
Extended-range electric vehicles were traditionally a domain of luxury brands like Li Auto and Aito. However, the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture launched the mass-market minivan with a range extender under the Wuling brand. It is the Hongguang EREV model with a price range of 68,800 – 73,800 yuan (9,400 – 10,100 USD).
The Wuling Hongguang EREV minivan aligns with the previously launched BEV model. A frameless grille is a distinguishing feature of the Hongguang EREV.

The interior of the entry-level Wuling Hongguang EREV is quite simple without a center screen or even a driver’s airbag. However, higher trims of the car offer an 8-inch touchscreen, two airbags, a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, and LED headlights. Other features include a D-shaped steering wheel, rectangular air-conditioning, and a knob gear shifter.
The Wuling Hongguang EREV has the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated LBH petrol-powered ICE under the hood. It acts as a generator, sending power to an electric motor and a battery. Its peak power reaches 70 kW (94 hp). The Hongguang EREV has an e-motor in the rear axle with a peak power of 75 kW (101 hp) and a torque of 180 Nm.
The Hongguang EREV has an LFP battery of 8.5 kWh. Its CLTC electric range reaches 50 km. The car also has a 55-liter fuel tank. The mixed range reaches 1,000 km. The WLTC fuel consumption of the Hongguang EREV is 2.42 liters per 100 km. With a drained battery, the fuel consumption surges to 5.18 liters per 100 km.
