Xiaomi Motor has updated its Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing for the upcoming YU7 electric SUV, adding a new single-motor variant capable of 835 kilometres (519 miles) of range. The company has officially confirmed that this model will launch between June and July this year, directly challenging competitors such as the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G7 in China’s premium electric SUV segment.

The newly registered version features a single electric motor producing 235 kW of power, with an impressive energy consumption rate of just 13.3 kWh per 100 kilometres. The vehicle maintains a substantial curb weight of 2,315 kg, balancing range efficiency with considerable size.

In terms of design, the YU7 continues Xiaomi’s family design language with a closed grille, “water drop headlights” and X-shaped daytime running lights. The upper half of the lighting assembly features a hollowed-out design to optimise airflow. With dimensions of 4,999×1,996×1,600mm and a 3,000mm wheelbase, the YU7 positions itself firmly in the mid-size SUV category. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and hollowed-out spoiler enhance the vehicle’s technological appearance.

Spy interior photos reveal a purple-red and beige two-tone colour scheme, with a floating centre control screen and PHUD (Panoramic Head-Up Display) system forming the core of the user interface. The latter can project navigation, speed, and other information without distraction. The dashboard includes a wireless charging panel, dual-opening armrest box, and cup holders, while electric leg rests and zero-gravity seats (in high-end configurations) enhance long-distance comfort. Premium models will also offer Alcantara steering wheels and carbon fibre trim.

For charging technology, the Xiaomi YU7 lineup supports 800V high-voltage fast charging. The single-motor 820 km range version can achieve “5 minutes of charging for 200 kilometres of range.” Though specific charging parameters for the 835 km version have not been disclosed, the combination of ultra-long range and high-voltage fast charging is expected to address range anxiety.

From a market perspective, Xiaomi’s pricing strategy remains a focal point of interest. Referencing competitors such as the Tesla Model Y and Xpeng G7 and Xiaomi’s SU7 pricing logic, the YU7 is expected to target the 250,000-350,000 yuan (35,000-49,000 USD) price range. The vehicle aims to capture mainstream market share through its “800V + long range + intelligent cockpit” combination. The pre-installed LiDAR hardware and deep integration with Xiaomi’s Hyper OS also reserves space for future high-level autonomous driving features via OTA updates.

As the June-July launch approaches, vehicle testing and production capacity ramp-up for the YU7 have entered the sprint stage. Xiaomi Group Chairman Lei Jun has repeatedly emphasised the “human-vehicle-home full ecosystem” strategy, and the YU7 launch will complete Xiaomi’s SUV market puzzle.

Following Xiaomi’s achievement of delivering 100,000 SU7 sedans ahead of schedule in 2024, whether the YU7 can continue this successful formula will be a key test of Xiaomi’s systematic capabilities in the automotive sector.
