Haval Raptor ICE variant

On May 6, Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) Haval brand revealed the official images of its gasoline-powered (ICE) variant of the Haval Raptor off-road SUV. Currently, a PHEV variant is on sale in China priced from 165,800 – 192,800 yuan (22,800 – 26,500 USD).

The Haval Raptor was first launched in the fall of 2023, equipped with GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system. At first, the car did not sell well, so an improved version was launched in the spring of 2024. At the same time, the market performance of the Haval brand has been subpar with a continuing downward trend from 2024 as a whole. In March, the Haval Raptor PHEV sales were 5,565 units, up 166.1% year-on-year and 56.7% month-on-month. In the first quarter, the cumulative sales were 14,159 units, ranked 60th on the best-selling SUV list in China.

The other Haval SUV models that appeared on the list were the Haval Big Dog and Haval H6, ranked 22nd and 31st, respectively. The Haval H6, once the sales champion of SUVs, is no longer as popular. Its sales in the first quarter were only 26,700 units, a sharp decline of 43.7% year-on-year.

The Haval Raptor ICE variant continues the overall boxy shape of the PHEV variant. However, the front grille adopts a waterfall vertical design compared with the previous horizontal design, paired with the Haval letter logo that can be lit up. The round headlights has been changed to rectangular shape. At the rear, the taillights also adopt a rectangular design with vertical light strip elements. The external spare tire is retained.

A panoramic sunroof, roof racks, side steps, and traditional door handles are present.

According to previously declared information by the Chinese MIIT, the length, width, and height of the ICE variant are 4800(4680) 1950/1822(1843) mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2738 mm, which are the same as the PHEV variant. Additionally, the new car runs on 245/55 R19, 265/60 R18 and 255/60 R19 tires.

Power comes from a 2.0T engine with a maximum power of 175 kW (235 hp), and is expected to match with a 9-speed DCT as well as available in AWD.
