Chery iCar teased its new hybrid SUV nicknamed “Chinese G-Class”

The CEO of Chery’s new energy division, iCar, Su Jun, released the first official photo of the iCar V27 EREV SUV. Su Jun also shared that this car is already nicknamed “Chinese G-Class” or “NEV Land Cruiser”. Here is all the information available about this vehicle at the moment.

Chery iCar is a new energy vehicle brand launched by Chery in 2023. Its domestic model line comprises two compact crossovers with sturdy styling: the iCar 03 (and iCar 03T), and the iCar V23. According to the China EV DataTracker, Chery iCar cumulative deliveries are 75,648 units. It isn’t a significant amount, considering the vast Chinese market. Soon, iCar will launch the third model. It is the iCar V27.

The Chery iCar V27 was previously seen in China during road tests. It is a large crossover with a body length of around 4.9 meters. The V27 has large bumpers, wide wheel arches, and boxy proportions. This vehicle boasts large blackened rims and large side-view mirrors. The front end of the iCar V27 has rectangular headlights with integrated circular LED running lights.

The rear end of the iCar V27 has a swing-out tailgate with a storage box mounted on it. The car has a small roof spoiler. It also has vertically aligned taillight units.

On May 19, iCar CEO Su Jun shared the first official photo of the V27 SUV. He shared that netizens called this SUV a “Chinese G-Class” or “NEV Land Cruiser”. The first reveal hints that the iCar V27 will soon be disclosed by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This model will enter the local market in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The iCar V27 will be equipped with an EREV powertrain. It will have a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator under the hood. The electric range of the iCar V27 will be around 200 km under CLTC conditions. This EREV model will be highly likely to offer both RWD and 4WD powertrain variants. This vehicle will cost 200,000 – 250,000 yuan (27,700 – 34,700 USD) in China.
