On May 27, Great Wall Motor (GWM) officially launched the gasoline-powered (ICE) variant of the Haval Raptor:
Previously, only a PHEV variant was available on the market priced from 165,800 – 192,800 yuan (22,800 – 26,500 USD).
The Haval Raptor ICE variant has two size specifications:
Both versions have a wheelbase of 2738 mm and run on 245/60 R18 and 255/60 R19 tires, respectively. Five exterior colors are offered: green, two shades of gray, black, and white.
The overall shape retains the square box design as that of the PHEV variant, along with the traditional door handles and roof racks. The front face adopts a new vertically-decorated grille combined with rectangular headlights that resemble the mortise and tenon joint in traditional Chinese architecture, according to the official. In the rear, the new longitudinal taillights are composed of 300 628 nm red LEDs.
Positioned as an off-road SUV, the Haval Raptor has an approach angle of 25°, a departure angle of 32°, a minimum ground clearance of 223 mm (unladen), a maximum wading depth of 580 mm, and a towing capacity of 1,600 kg.
Power comes from a 2.0T engine, mated to a 9DCT, paired with an intelligent four-wheel drive system and a rear electronically controlled mechanical differential lock. The 2.0T engine has a maximum power of 175 kW (235 hp) and a peak torque of 385 Nm. The fuel tank capacity is 60 L, the WLTC comprehensive fuel consumption is 8.65L/100km, and the 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 8.1 seconds. Nine driving modes are also supported.
The cockpit underwent a minor upgrade with a new flat-bottom steering wheel, a 12.3-inch a LCD instrument panel, a 14.6-inch central control screen, and a simplified center console with the bulky gear lever removed. The rectangular air-conditioning outlets and physical buttons on the center console are also retained.
The vehicle operating system comes from GWM’s Coffee OS 3.0 and the 10-speaker audio system is enhanced with GWM’s Coffee AI Sound system.
Level 2 advanced driving assistance capabilities are present, including automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and rear collision warning, just to name a few.
The standard trunk volume is 586 L and can be expanded to 1404 L when the rear seats are folded down.
The rear external box has an additional 2.7 L storage capacity. Both the front and rear doors are equipped with adjustable strap-type cup holders with a maximum diameter of 90 mm and a strap height of 120 mm.
