BYD‘s luxury brand, Yangwang, officially commenced nationwide deliveries of its U7 all-electric luxury sedan today. Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Group, personally handed over the first Yangwang U7 vehicles to customers at the Yangwang Center in Yubei, Chongqing.

The Yangwang U7 is the world’s first “four-electric” flagship sedan, integrating technologies in its battery, electric motors, electronic control systems, and the DiSus-Z electromagnetic suspension system. This suspension system, which applies electromagnetic principles previously used in aircraft carrier electromagnetic catapults and maglev trains, is a global first for automobiles.

The Yangwang U7 boasts an impressive output of over 1,300 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.9 seconds. Its advanced capabilities include on-the-spot turns, fixed-wheel rotation, and parallel parking with lateral movement. Coupled with bidirectional 20-degree intelligent rear-wheel steering, the D-segment flagship U7 achieves a turning radius comparable to an A0-segment compact car, making city driving agile and effortless. The vehicle also has the “God’s Eye A” advanced intelligent driving assistance system (ADAS) with three LiDAR sensors, featuring industry-leading hardware and algorithms for enhanced driving and parking convenience.

The Yangwang U7 EV variant measures 5360/2000/1515 mm and has a 3,200 mm wheelbase. It is powered by four electric motors with a combined peak output of 960 kW (1,287 hp). The U7 has a top speed of 270 kph and is equipped with a 135.5 kWh battery, providing a CLTC range of up to 720 kilometres.

The Yangwang U7 is the brand’s third model, following the U8 SUV and U9 sports car. With a starting price of 628,000 yuan (87,150 USD), the U7 aims to compete with high-end sedans from established luxury brands such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8L. Deliveries of the Yangwang U7 are now underway, with vehicles being shipped to Yangwang Centres across the country in the order of purchase.

About the Disus-Z system

The DiSus-Z system operates on a principle, directly converting electrical energy into kinetic energy to actively manage vehicle suspension. It utilises sensors to gather real-time information about road conditions and the displacement of its magnetic suspension motors. This data is then converted into electrical signals and processed by the DiSus intelligent computing centre’s suspension algorithm, which, in conjunction with the electronic control unit, precisely manages power output.

As the vehicle moves, the magnetic suspension motors directly apply active force to counter road vibrations, effectively decoupling the upper body from the wheels. This creates a sensation where the upper body “floats” above the four wheels, significantly enhancing ride comfort. Furthermore, when road forces passively act upon the magnetic suspension motors, they can convert kinetic energy back into electrical energy, enabling energy recovery.

This direct conversion from electrical to kinetic energy represents an innovation in automotive suspension, marking a shift from traditional hydraulic systems to a truly electric suspension. This fundamental change is why BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu refers to it as a key component of the “four-electric system” in new energy vehicles.
