On June 18, Leapmotor announced that its cumulative deliveries exceeded 800,000 vehicles. From January to May this year, Leapmotor’s cumulative export sales volume exceeded 17,200 vehicles, ranking first among Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) startups, according to the company.

Leapmotor was founded by Zhu Jiangming on December 24, 2015, after seeing several small electric cars produced by Renault when traveling in Spain earlier that year and believing that this new type of electric car would have a large market in China.

Later, the company went public in Hong Kong in September 2022 as the fourth Chiense NEV startup to be listed after Nio, Xpeng, and Li Auto. From 2022 to 2024, the company sold 111,100, 144,100, and 293,700 vehicles, respectively.

In January 2019, Leapmotor launched its first BEV, the Leapmotor S01, but the car did not sell well (less than 3,000 units were sold from 2019 to 2021) and was discontinued in 2022. Then on May 11, 2020, Leapmotor launched the T03 mini EV with a cruising range of 400 km and a price range of 65,800 – 75,800 yuan (9,160 – 10,550 USD). The T03 sold well compared to the S01 with 10,266 units sold in 2020, 11,391 units in 2021, and 61,919 units in 2023.

Taking a closer look at Leapmotor’s sales performance. Last month, Leapmotor delivered 45,067 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of more than 148%, bringing its cumulative delivery volume to 173,658 vehicles for the first five months of 2025.

In addition, Leapmotor has came in first in sales among Chinese NEV startups for three consecutive months from March to May: 37,095 units, 41,039 units, and 45,067 units, respectively.
