Xiaomi YU7 gears up for launch next week with thousands of units ready for July delivery
Xiaomi is preparing to launch its second electric vehicle, the YU7, officially next week. The car, produced under the Xiaomi EV brand, has already entered mass production, with thousands of units spotted outside the Xiaomi EV factory in Yizhuang, Beijing. Sources suggest that deliveries could begin as early as July.

Positioned as a mid-size electric SUV with fastback styling, the Xiaomi YU7 measures around 4.8 meters in length. It is built on the same Modena platform as the SU7 sedan, with shared EV architecture and digital systems. The YU7’s design reflects a more family-oriented approach, offering higher ground clearance, a spacious cabin, and improved rear headroom thanks to a more vertical roofline than the coupe-like SU7.

A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system powers the YU7. Regulatory filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show that its front motor delivers 145 kW, and the rear motor adds 220 kW, bringing the combined output to 365 kW (489 hp). A high-performance variant has also been tested with a 220 kW front motor and 285 kW rear motor, totalling 508 kW (681 hp). The vehicle supports 800V architecture and features lithium-ion batteries from BYD and CATL.

Inside, the YU7 features a bright cabin similar to the SU7. It integrates Xiaomi’s HyperOS with a Snapdragon 8295 chip and a 16.1-inch central infotainment screen. It will also use the Nvidia Drive Orin chip for advanced driving assistance, with Xiaomi Pilot Pro offering L2+ capabilities. The vehicle has a surround-view camera system, lidar, and ultrasonic sensors.

The YU7 is expected to be priced lower than the SU7, 245,900 yuan (34,100 USD). This positions it against its rivals, the Tesla Model Y. We expect Xiaomi will adopt an aggressive pricing strategy to expand its market share in the SUV segment.

The YU7 was designed by the same team behind the SU7, led by former BMW designer Tianyuan Li. While final specifications and pricing will be announced during the launch event, the production ramp-up suggests Xiaomi aims to avoid the early delivery delays experienced with the SU7.

With mass production underway and inventory building up, the YU7 is on track for a timely market entry, reinforcing Xiaomi’s push into the competitive Chinese EV landscape.
