Hyundai Elexio SUV applied for sales licence in China, revealing BYD battery inside and 312 hp
The Hyundai Elexio SUV applied for a sales license in China, revealing a BYD battery inside and core specs and powertrain options. The EV is produced by Hyundai’s Chinese Joint venture with BAIC, Beijing Hyundai.
As Beijing Hyundai applied for homologation and sales license from the regulator under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), production version images, dimensions, and other specs were disclosed.

Hyundai Elexios is a 5-seater with dimensions 4615/1875/1673 mm (length/width/height) and a 2,750 mm wheelbase. It has two powertrain versions, FWD and AWD, with curb weights of 2,039 kg and 2184 kg, respectively.
The front-wheel drive version has a single motor EM16 with a maximum output of 160 kW and a 185 km/h top speed.
The all-wheel drive version has the same 160 kW motor in front and an additional 73 kW motor in the rear, providing a combined output of 233 kW (312 hp). The top speed is the same, 185 km/h.
The battery pack has Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and is supplied by FinDream, a wholly owned subsidiary of BYD. The pack’s capacity wasn’t disclosed, but Hyundai claims the range will be up to 700 km under CLTC conditions.
The Hyundai Elexio was revealed in April at the Shanghai Auto Show, without sharing any specs or details. The global debut followed on May 8, “demonstrating Hyundai’s electrification transformation”. The Beijing-based joint venture later revealed that the Elexio will be built on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and that the EV marks a comeback for (foreign) joint ventures in China.
The company also announced that it plans to add more BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs to its lineup in the next two years, without elaborating further.
The Hyundai Elexio is China-only as of now, and CarNewsChina expects it to launch in Q3 of the year, with a price tag of around 140,000 yuan (19,500 USD).
