Chinese automaker Geely officially launched its operations in Greece on June 24, 2025, introducing its first model, the Geely EX5, an all-electric SUV. This move signifies Geely’s expansion into the European market, partnering with GEO Mobility Hellas, a subsidiary of Union Group, for import and distribution.

The Geely EX5 was launched in China last August as the Geely Galaxy E5. Five versions are priced domestically between 112,800 and 148,800 yuan (15,760 – 20,800 USD).

The EX5 has a front-mounted 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor that generates 320 Nm of torque. This motor enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. It offers two battery options: a 49.52 kWh pack providing a CLTC range of 440 km, and a 60.22 kWh pack extending the CLTC range to 530 km.

The Greek automotive market has shown resilience, with new car sales in May 2025 reaching 15,670 units, a 13.9% increase year-over-year. The market is still predominantly driven by internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, with Japanese and French brands leading the sales. Toyota remains the top brand with a 16.4% market share in May, followed by Peugeot (7.6%) and Hyundai (7.5%).

Several Chinese electric vehicle (EV) brands have entered the Greek market recently, contributing to the nation’s energy transition goals. This growing presence is notable given Greece’s abstention from the October 2024 EU vote on raising tariffs on Chinese-made EVs, reflecting its balanced international economic and political interests and the increasing demand for Chinese EVs in the Greek market.

In May 2025, Chinese brands demonstrated a notable presence in the Greek market. MG sold 556 units, ranking 12th overall, with a 67% year-over-year increase. BYD sold 198 units and saw a 1423.1% increase year-over-year. The MG ZS remains a strong performer in the entry-level SUV segment, while BYD’s Seal U and Dolphin models are gaining traction in the pure electric vehicle segment. Geely’s Lynk & Co brand sold 2 units in May, with a year-to-date sales of 172 units.
