Chinese automaker Nio produced the 800,000th vehicle in China 7 years and 2 months after its first EV rolled off the production line. The Onvo L90 full-size SUV became the anniversary vehicle. It is set to launch on July 31 to become one of the company’s sales drivers in China.

Nio kicked off the production of its first model (ES8) on May 27, 2018, at the facility of the state-owned JAC automaker. It took the young Chinese startup 2 years and 10 months to reach the 100,000th assembled vehicle milestone. This goal was accomplished on April 7, 2021. The Nio’s average production volume during the mentioned period was around 96 vehicles per day.

On April 26, 2022, Nio announced the production of the 200,000th vehicle in China. Its average daily production volume rose by 170.8% to 260 units daily. In September 2022, the second Nio-JAC plant in Hefei began operation in China. As a result, the production volume continued to grow. The automaker announced that its 300,000th car rolled off the production line on December 12, 2022. Its daily production volume reached 435 units.

In 2023, Nio didn’t share a specific date for the 400,000th car production date. In December 2023, Nio acquired F1 and F2 plants in Hefei from JAC with the combined transaction price reaching 3.16 billion yuan (441 million USD). On May 9, 2024, this automaker produced the 500,000th vehicle. Its average production volume slid to 389 units per day.

On August 15, Nio began production of the Onvo L60 fastback electric SUV. Acting as the company’s mass-market model, it boosted the production volume. On October 11 last year, the 600,000th mass-produced Nio car was handed over to a client. Its average daily production rate reached 645 units. However, Nio’s daily production volume dropped to 471 units per day afterwards as the company delivered the 700,000th car on May 11, 2025.

On July 24, Nio shared that it produced the 800,000th vehicle in China. As a result, the Chinese car maker reached the record-breaking average daily vehicle production volume of 1,351 units. It took Nio 74 days to manufacture 100,000 vehicles. The Onvo L90 full-size electric SUV became the anniversary vehicle. Nio revealed that around 600 units of the L90 arrived at Onvo stores across China for test drives. This car aims to become the company’s bestselling vehicle with the launch scheduled for July 31.
