Shangjie H5 EREV crossover from Huawei and SAIC revealed over 230 km of EV range in China. This mass-market SUV will enter the local market in September with a price tag under 200,000 yuan (27,950 USD). It will offer both BEV and EREV variants.
Shangjie is the fifth brand under the Huawei umbrella. The IT giant runs its own car sales network called HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) in China in partnership with different state-owned automakers. HIMA currently sells models under four brands: Aito, Luxeed, Stelato, and Maextro. Shangjie is a joint project between Huawei and SAIC. Its first model is the H5 crossover, aimed at young buyers.
Briefly about Shangjie H5
The Shangjie H5 is a mid-size SUV with five seats. It has a clean front-end design with an active air intake and thin headlights. The car boasts a LiDAR on the roof, conventional door handles, and a single taillight unit. Dimensions of the H5 are 4780/1910/1657 mm with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. For clarity, it is 10 mm shorter than the standard Tesla Model Y. The H5 was said to feature Huawei’s ADS 4 ADAS.

The Shangjie H5 offers two powertrain variants: BEV and EREV. The entry-level pure electric modification of this SUV has a 150 kW (201 hp) e-motor powered by an LFP battery from CATL. This car also has a more powerful BEV option with a 180 kW (241 hp) electric motor and a CATL-made ternary NMC pack.
The EREV variant of the Shangjie H5 has the same 150 kW electric motor as the BEV version. However, this model also has a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated internal combustion engine that acts as a generator under the hood. Its peak power reaches 72 kW (97 hp).
Shangjie H5 EREV range
On July 28, Shangjie revealed more information about the H5 EREV. This car will offer up to 230 km of electric range under CLTC conditions. The mixed range of this model is over 1,300 km (CLTC). For comparison, the equally-sized Deepal S07 crossover from Changan offers 215 – 285 km under CLTC conditions.
Interestingly, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) also released the H5’s battery details. This mid-size SUV adopts a 32.6 kWh LFP battery that weighs 255 kg. According to the MIIT listing, the Shangjie H5 has 181 km of electric range. The noticeable difference between the ministry’s information and the manufacturer’s stated figures may be due to the test cycle. We may assume that MIIT relied on the WLTC cycle, while Shangjie used the CLTC.
According to MIIT, the Shangjie H5 EREV has a fuel consumption of 5.19 liters per 100 km with a depleted battery. The mentioned Deepal S07 EREV has a fuel consumption of 5.2 liters per 100 km. So, the Shangjie H5 stands as a strong rival in the segment.
