Yangwang U8L started presales in China for 180K USD as Cullinan rival
The Yangwang U8L full-size EREV SUV from BYD started presales in China with an estimated price of 1,300,000 yuan (181,130 USD). This China-made Rolls-Royce Cullinan rival boasts a 5.4-meter body, a 24K golden emblem, and six seats with a 2+2+2 layout. The major highlight of the U8L is a four-motor powertrain for 880 kW (1,180 hp).
Yangwang is BYD’s luxury brand that has been operating in China since January 2023. The U8 range-extended SUV became the launch car of this brand with a starting price of 1,089,000 yuan (151,740 USD). The U8L is a larger variant of the original U8. The Yangwang’s current model line comprises three cars, with the Yangwang U7 as the latest product.
Despite being a brand under the Chinese giant BYD, Yangwang suffers from slow sales in China. It delivered 1,003 vehicles domestically in the first half of 2025, according to China EV DataTracker. It is 5.5 times less than in the same period of 2024. BYD aims to make a sales boost to its luxury division by launching it overseas and broadening its model line. On July 31, Yangwang kicked off presales of the U8L massive SUV.
More about the Yangwang U8L
The full name of the Yangwang’s new SUV is U8L Dingshi Edition. It aligns with the standard U8 in terms of styling. It has the same distinguishing front end with a large grille and integrated headlights. However, the U8L is 372 mm longer with a wheelbase stretched by 200 mm. The rear end of the U8L has a split tailgate instead of a swing-out door of the regular version. It is a clear reference to the Range Rover and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Another fine feature of the Yangwang U8L is a 24K gold-plated emblem in the front that replaces a glass-made badge of the standard U8. The elongated car is available in two colors: black and gold. This vehicle rides on massive 23-inch rims. The exact dimensions of the Yangwang’s newcomer are 5400/2049/1921 mm with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. It puts the Yangwang U8 in the league of large American SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade.
The YangWang U8 adopts a three-row interior with a 2+2+2 layout. Its center console has three monitors: a 23.6-inch instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented driver’s touchscreen, and a 23.6-inch monitor for the front passenger. The first-row and second-row seats of the U8L adopt heating, ventilation, and 14-point massage functions. The armrests of this SUV are also heated. Another luxury feature of the U8L is automatically dimmed second-row windows. There is also a large ceiling-mounted screen for the second-row passengers.

The Yangwang U8L adopts the DiPilot 600 system with three LiDAR sensors and a peak computing power of 600 TOPS. It is capable of the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways. It also has advanced parking assistance. The car’s chassis adopts the Disus-P hydraulic suspension. This massive SUV also has carbon-ceramic brakes.
The YangWang U8L is a range extender with a 2-liter turbocharged ICE under the hood. This vehicle has four electric motors powering each wheel with a combined output of 880 kW (1,180 hp). The peak torque of the system reaches 1,280 Nm. This vehicle can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. Its mixed range reaches 1,000 km.
Yangwang U8L presales
The Yangwang U8L became available for presale for 1,300,000 yuan (181,130 USD). It is available for reservation for 20,000 yuan (2,790 USD). Owners of Yangwang-branded cars can enjoy an 80,000 yuan (11,150 USD) trade-in bonus after the launch. It is worth noting that the U8L is 17% more expensive than its “small” sibling. With this car, Yangwang doesn’t consider other domestic products as rivals, aiming at SUVs from legacy brands.
