BYD dominated seven overseas markets in the first half of 2025, the company’s general manager of brand and public relations, Li Yunfei, shared. Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, and Brazil are among this list. In most cases, BYD’s GM cited statistics on new energy vehicle sales.

BYD has been actively expanding its overseas sales as the automaker plans to sell half of its cars outside China by 2030. It exports cars mostly to Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. In early August, BYD general manager Li Yunfei highlighted the company’s dominance in selected markets.

BYD sales performance in selected markets

According to data obtained by Li Yunfei, BYD became the sales champion in Hong Kong and Singapore. The car maker sold 4,909 and 4,667 units in these markets, respectively. In other countries, BYD dominated the segment of new energy vehicles. These statistics include PHEV + BEV sales data.

In H1 2025, BYD sold 24,072 cars in Thailand, up 64.1% year over year. This figure is almost four times higher than that of the runner-up brand, MG. BYD operates a manufacturing plant with a total production capacity of 150,000 units in the country. It started operating on July 4, 2024. The Thai factory will export vehicles to neighboring ASEAN countries and beyond.

Another market with strong BYD dominance is Indonesia. The Chinese car maker sold 14,092 vehicles from January 1 to June 30 in the country, easily surpassing Chery. Moreover, the BYD-owned Denza brand took the third spot in the list with 5,733 units. It means BYD company sold 19,825 cars in the local market in H1 2024.

BYD also led new energy sales in Spain with 10,196 units delivered in the first half of 2025. For comparison, Tesla took second place with 7,166 cars. It is worth mentioning that BYD is considering a location for the third European plant after Hungary and Turkey. CarNewsChina assumes that BYD-friendly Spain could turn into a site for factory construction.

Italy became another country with a strong BYD presence. The Chinese car maker sold 9,517 cars here in H1 2025, surpassing BMW and Tesla. However, Brazil turned into one of the most successful BYD markets worldwide with 47,107 units sold.

CarNewsChina also obtained data from the Uzbekistan car manufacturer UzAuto that shows that BYD became the bestselling new energy brand locally. It delivered 9,708 units with the BYD Song Plus DM-i (Seal-U) as the bestseller. BYD assembles cars at the BYD Uzbekistan factory jointly owned with the mentioned UzAuto. This factory’s current production volume reaches 50,000 units per year. The long-term goal of this plant is to push production to 500,000 units, turning it into a car supplier for the Central Asia region.

In the first half of 2025, BYD sold 2,145,954 vehicles, solidifying its position as the world’s largest EV maker. Despite facing challenges in the domestic market, the Chinese automaker pushes overseas sales further. To fulfil its export ambitions, BYD is building a fleet of eight car carriers capable of carrying from 7,000 to 9,200 units. We listed sales ratings in selected countries below.
