BYD Yangwang U7 GT spied, shooting brake revealed
Low-camouflage images of the BYD Yangwang U7 GT have surfaced online, offering the clearest look yet at the brand’s high-performance shooting brake. Based on the Yangwang U7 luxury sedan, the U7 GT adopts a more extended roofline and hatchback-style rear section while incorporating several performance-oriented design changes.
The exterior features a sloped roof, frameless doors, flush door handles, and a parabolic-style window line. At the rear, the car is fitted with a split roof spoiler, a full-width LED taillight bar, and a diffuser integrated into the lower bumper. The design prioritises aerodynamic flow and emphasises sportiness, following a shooting brake form factor rather than a traditional sedan or SUV.
Inside, the U7 GT includes a triple-screen layout: a large vertical central touchscreen and two flanking digital displays for instrumentation and passenger use. Additional elements may follow the Yangwang U7 luxury sedan, including digital mirror feeds on the door panels, a D-shaped multifunction steering wheel with scroll dials, and electrically adjustable front seats. Materials such as suede are used in the centre armrest area, contributing to a premium and technology-forward cabin experience.

The car was expected to share the Yangwang U7 sedan’s core drivetrain and chassis systems. This includes BYD’s proprietary e⁴ quad-motor all-wheel drive system and 800V silicon carbide platform. Each motor is rated at 240 kW, giving a total system output of 960 kW (approximately 1,300 hp) and peak torque of 1,584 Nm. These figures suggest a strong emphasis on acceleration and torque vectoring.
Suspension duties are managed by BYD’s DiSus-Z electromagnetic system, which uses four independently controlled actuators in place of hydraulic dampers. The system is capable of making up to 50 adjustments every 10 milliseconds and supports regenerative damping, allowing road energy to be partially converted into battery charge.
Though official specifications for the U7 GT have not been released, its dimensions were expected to be similar to the U7 sedan’s: 5,265 mm long, 1,998 mm wide, 1,517 mm high, and a 3,160 mm wheelbase. The vehicle is positioned in the luxury EV segment. It would likely compete with high-end models such as the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo, Panamera Sport Turismo, and Maserati Levante GT Hybrid.

Reports also suggest that the U7 GT may have been equipped with three lidar sensors and BYD’s advanced “Eye of the Gods” driver assistance platform, enabling features aimed at higher-level autonomous driving.
As of this report, BYD has not formally introduced the Yangwang U7 GT to the market. According to comments from automotive blogger @SugarDesign, who published the leaked photos, the U7 GT program may have been delayed or cancelled before its official debut.
