The Nio’s Firefly EV electric hatchback started deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands, marking its foray into Europe. This small EV designed for urban mobility starts at 279,900 NOK (27,500 USD) in Norway. Its starting price in the Netherlands is 29,900 EUR (34,940 USD).
Firefly is an electric brand created by Nio mainly for the European market. Its current model line comprises a single model called Firefly EV. It is a small hatchback launched in China in April 2025 with a price range of 119,800 – 125,800 yuan (16,610 – 17,440 USD). The cumulative sales volume of the Firefly EV reached 10,209 units domestically, according to China EV DataTracker.
Nio aims to launch the Firefly EV in several European countries, with Norway and the Netherlands as the first two points on the roadmap. In the future, Firefly will enter Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania. On August 14, Firefly EV reportedly began deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands.
Firefly EV deliveries
The Firefly EV hatchback started deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands on August 14, according to Nio. The Chinese automaker didn’t provide any data about the initial sales volume of this model or its short-term plans in the two countries.
According to data previously obtained by CarNewsChina, Nio registered six Firefly EVs in Norway in July 2025. Moreover, the Chinese automaker also registered six units of the Firefly EV in the Netherlands in June. Interestingly, photos from the delivery ceremony in the Netherlands show six cars with license plates parked at the dealership. It seems like the first batch of Firefly cars consisted of just six vehicles in both Norway and the Netherlands.

The Firefly EV is available in Norway and the Netherlands with two equally equipped trim levels. The entry-level Firefly EV offers a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and heated front seats & a steering wheel. The top-trim level has a power tailgate, a sunroof, and power front seats with ventilation and massage functions.
The Firefly EV is cheaper in Norway as this country isn’t a part of the European Union. Therefore, it provides mild tax regulations without additional tariffs on China-made EVs. The price range of the Firefly EV in the Land of the Midnight Sun is 279,900 – 299,900 NOK (27,500 – 29,470 USD). It is worth noting that this model costs 39.6 – 40.8% less in the domestic market.
This urban EV costs 29,900 – 32,500 EUR (34,930 – 37,970 USD) in the Netherlands. It is twice as expensive as in China. This price difference is partly caused by an additional 31% import duty on Nio cars in the EU. For clarity, the similarly-sized Renault 5 E-Tech Electric costs 27,990 EUR (32,730 USD).
