Tesla China slashes Model 3 Long Range price by 1,400 USD less than a month after launch
Tesla China has announced a price reduction for its Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant in China, cutting the price by 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD) to 259,500 yuan (36,070 USD). This move comes less than a month after the model’s initial introduction.
The Model 3 Long Range RWD, which boasts an 830 km range and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.2 seconds, was initially launched on August 12 with a starting price of 269,500 (37,470 USD). The new pricing, confirmed on Tesla’s official website, is effective as of today. Furthermore, all four Model 3 variants have reportedly received range upgrades.
This latest pricing adjustment follows closely on the heels of the Model Y L variant’s debut in the Chinese market on August 19. The Model Y L launched with a starting price of 339,000 yuan (47,120 USD). A Tesla China insider, speaking to Chinese media National Business Daily (NBD), commented that “considering the current configuration, this price still holds strong appeal.”

According to NBD, Tesla is currently navigating an increasingly challenging market landscape in China. Data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) indicates a slowdown in sales from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. In July 2025, sales reached 67,000 units, marking an 8.4% decrease compared to 74,000 units sold in July 2024, and a 5.2% drop from June 2025’s 71,000 units. Cumulatively, Tesla’s sales in China from January to July 2025 totalled approximately 432,000 units, representing a 13.6% decline from 500,000 units during the same period in 2024.
In response to these market pressures, Tesla has been proactive with new product introductions and strategic pricing. Beyond the recently launched Model 3 Long Range RWD and Model Y L, the company is also preparing to introduce a more “affordable” version of the Model Y. During the Q2 earnings call this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the “affordable car” slated for launch by the end of this year would be a new version of the Model Y, with mass production anticipated to commence in the second half of 2025.
