At the opening day of the 2025 Munich Motor Show (IAA Mobility 2025), Stellantis-backed Chinese automaker Leapmotor officially unveiled its new compact electric hatchback, the Lafa 5. The company announced that pre-orders for the vehicle will soon begin in China, with deliveries planned for Q4 2025. A sportier variant, the Lafa 5 Ultra, is expected to start deliveries in China in 2026, as reported by Y-Auto.

The Lafa 5 follows the brand’s existing design language while incorporating several distinctive features. At the front, the vehicle retains the signature LED strip connecting the headlights. The bonnet has prominent sculpted lines, and the front bumper features a forward-protruding design, giving the front fascia a dynamic appearance.

From the side, the hatchback has a streamlined profile with retractable door handles. Some trim levels are equipped with a visible LiDAR unit on the roof to support the car’s intelligent driving assistance system. The rear design is minimalist, with a roof spoiler, a single continuous taillight, and sculpted fenders. Leapmotor offers six exterior colour options for the model.

The Lafa 5 is built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 modular architecture, shared with the B10 crossover. While official specifications have not been confirmed, the compact hatchback is expected to be similar in size to the Volkswagen ID.3, which measures 4,262 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width, and 1,552 mm in height. Powertrain options are likely aligned with the B10, with entry-level models featuring a single electric motor producing 132 kW (177 hp) paired with a 56.2 kWh LFP battery. Higher trims are expected to offer a 160 kW (215 hp) motor and a 67.1 kWh LFP battery.

Leapmotor Senior Vice President Cao Lin noted that the Lafa 5 is intended to support the company’s overseas expansion, indicating that the model is being positioned for international markets. Leapmotor, partially acquired by Stellantis last year, has been actively developing its global business.

From January to August 2025, the brand sold 328,859 vehicles in China and reached its semi-annual net profit. Currently, Leapmotor’s domestic lineup consists of seven models, with three available internationally.

The Lafa 5’s global debut at the Munich Motor Show positions the model as a compact BEV contender for markets outside China, potentially targeting rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3 in Europe and other regions.
