The updated BYD M6 minivan was seen in China during road tests with a redesigned interior. It is a new energy MPV for global markets. The BYD M6 was previously available in China under the Song Max name. The spotted variant adopts a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The BYD Song Max first entered the Chinese market in 2017 as a petrol-powered MPV. Shortly after, BYD launched PHEV and BEV variants of the Song Max. It was updated in China for the last time in 2022 before leaving the market. However, this model’s BEV variant entered overseas markets with two naming variants: M6 and eMax 7. The updated BYD M6 was recently spotted in China, featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a new interior.

According to photos shared by Autohome, the updated BYD M6 adopts a large front grille with horizontal bars and sizable headlights in the front. It has separated taillight units from the back. This model has chrome-plated elements on the sides with a “Space” inscription. Other features of this vehicle are conventional door handles and a roof spoiler. Dimensions of the BYD M6 are 4710/1810/1690 mm with a wheelbase of 2,785 mm.

The interior of the BYD M6 adopts a new center tunnel with two wireless phone charging pads, a block of physical buttons, two cup holders, and a small compartment. The gear shifter moved to the steering column. This model has a D-shaped steering wheel with a BYD emblem. It hints that this model is dedicated to overseas markets. The center console of the BYD M6 adopts a floating touchscreen and an LCD instrument cluster.



The second row of the updated M6 has three seats. There is no information on whether the spotted car has a third row. We could also highlight that the front seats of the M6 are covered with fabrics, while the second-row seats are wrapped in leatherette.
There is no information about the updated BYD M6 powertrain. CarNewsChina expects this car to be equipped with a 5.0 DM-i plug-in hybrid system. It adopts a 1.5-liter engine for 74 kW (99 hp) and an electric motor for 160 kW (215 hp).
The BYD M6 is currently available in a range of countries with a BEV powertrain. It offers a single electric motor for up to 150 kW (201 hp). It is powered by two LFP battery variants: a 55.4 kWh and a 71.8 kWh. Its electric range lies between 420 and 530 km under NEDC conditions.
