Updated 2026 model year BYD Qin Plus DM-i and Qin L DM-i entered the Chinese market as affordable PHEV sedans with up to 210 km of electric range and a starting price of 79,800 yuan (11,400 USD). Higher trim levels of these Dynasty-series models offer an LFP battery for 25.28 kWh.

On January 8, the world’s biggest NEV maker BYD held the launch ceremony of the 2026 model year BYD Qin Plus DM-i and BYD Qin L DM-i sedans. Qin is one of the most popular model lines under the BYD brand, with 661,090 units sold last year. Updated variants of the Qin Plus DM-i and the Qin L DM-i aim to keep the sales volume high.

Affordable PHEVs with 210 km of EV range

The major update of the 2026 model year Qin Plus DM-i and the Qin L DM-i is a bigger battery option for 25.28 kWh. It is an LFP pack made by BYD subsidiary FinDreams. This battery is a part of the DM 5.0 powertrain that consists of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine for 99 hp and an electric motor for 120 kW (161 hp).

The launch of the two updated sedans from the Qin series with up to 210 km of electric range accelerates competition in the mass-market segment. The Qin Plus DM-i with a 25.28 kWh battery starts at 89,800 yuan (12,830 USD) in China. The Qin L DM-i with the same pack costs 116,800 yuan (16,690 USD).

For clarity, most of the other plug-in hybrid sedans in this segment offer a battery with a capacity under 20 kWh. Examples include the Geely Galaxy Starshine 6 (17 kWh, 125 km EV range), the Geely Galaxy A7 (18.4 kWh, 150 km), and the Chery Fulwin A8L (18.67 kWh, 145 km). The launch of two Qin-branded sedans underlines BYD’s cost control level.

More about the updated Qin Plus DM-i

The BYD Qin Plus DM-i retains the same design language called Loong Face (Dragon Face). However, it adds three new body colors: Pine Smoke Green, Bamboo Green, and Wiyang Gray. Dimensions of the Qin Plus DM-i are 4780/1837/1515 mm with a wheelbase of 2,718 mm. For clarity, it is 150 mm longer than the Toyota Corolla.

The entry-level BYD Qin Plus DM-i has an 8.8-inch instrument panel and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The top-trim car offers a bigger 12.8-inch display. It is powered by the DiLink 100 infotainment system with a microphone-free karaoke function. The top-trim BYD Qin Plus DM-i also features the DiPilot 100 assisted driving system with 12 cameras, 5 mm-wave radars, and a computing power of 100 TOPS.

The entry-level BYD Qin Plus DM-i has a 15.87 kWh battery on board for 128 km (CLTC conditions). The new model is available in three trim levels. Their prices are as follows.

• BYD Qin Plus DM-i 128 km Progressive – 79,800 yuan (11,400 USD)
• BYD Qin Plus DM-i 210 km Progressive – 89,800 yuan (12,830 USD)
• BYD Qin Plus DM-i 210 km Advanced – 99,800 yuan (14,260 USD)

Briefly on the BYD Qin L DM-i

The BYD Qin L DM-i is a larger sedan with dimensions of 4830/1900/1495 mm and a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. This model could be distinguished by a large lower grille and sharp headlights. It also has three new body shades: Pine Smoke Green, Ink Bamboo Green, and Galaxy Beige.

The entry-level 2026 model year Qin L DM-I has a combination of an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen. The top-trim level boasts a 15.6-inch monitor powered by the DiLink 100 system. Other features of the Qin L include a refrigerator and a head-up display. Higher trim levels of this sedan have the DiPilot 100 ADAS.
