New Audi Q5L with Huawei ADAS launched in China for 44,420 USD
The new Audi Q5L from the FAW–Audi joint venture was launched in China. It is 125 mm longer than the global version. The Q5L boasts Huawei-developed ADAS with two LiDARs and a starting price of 309,800 yuan (44,420 USD). This SUV features a fifth-generation EA888 engine for up to 200 kW (268 hp).
Last year, the FAW-Audi joint venture delivered 133,589 Q5L crossovers, down 8.2% Year-Over-Year (China EV DataTracker data). As one of the German brand’s most important models in China, the Q5L needed a new impetus. The launch of the third generation aimed to provide that.
More about the Audi Q5L
The third-gen Audi Q5L stands on the latest Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture. Its exterior styling aligns with the global model with sharp handles and a single taillight unit. However, the Chinese version has unique semi-hidden door handles and ha igh-mounted brake light. The Q5L is available in black, green, white, silver, and brown.
The new Q5L’s dimensions are 4842/1900/1660 mm with a wheelbase of 2,945 mm. It is 125 mm longer than the global variant without the “L” character. It is also 72 mm longer than the second-gen Audi Q5L. The wheelbase was stretched by 38 mm. Despite having a long body, this crossover is available only with five seats inside.
The Audi Q5L rides on 19, 20, and 21-inch wheels. Its headlights adopt 16 high beam zones, while the taillight unit consists of 266 individual LEDs. The car has two LiDAR sensors from Huawei and an optional ADS assisted driving system capable of automatically recognizing parking spaces and performing navigation on autopilot on urban roads and highways.
The Audi Q5L’s interior offers three screens: an 11.9-inch instrument panel, a 14.5-inch OLED central touchscreen, and a 10.9-inch monitor for the front passenger. It is also available with a 13.1-inch head-up display. It supports overlay route planning with real-world road views. Other features include wireless phone charging pads, ambient lighting, a Bang & Olufsen sound system for 16 speakers, and heated seats.
Powertrain and price
The Audi Q5L adopts the fifth-gen EA888 engine. It is a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48V belt starter generator. The entry-level variant of the Q5L has a peak power output of 150 kW (201 hp) and a 340 Nm torque. A more powerful spec boasts 200 kW (268 hp) and 400 Nm. The new Q5L comes standard with a 7DCT and all-wheel drive. The car could be equipped with air suspension.
The starting price of the third-gen Audi Q5L is 309,800 yuan (44,420 USD). For comparison, the second-gen Q5L’s MSRP is 349,800 yuan (50,160 USD) with no discounts applied. However, the outgoing model is currently available for purchase with a starting price of 251,900 yuan (36,120 USD). Prices of the third-gen Q5L are as follows:
