Xiaomi SU7 sold just 218 units in February as the factory retools for the new generation model
Xiaomi sold just 218 units of the SU7 sedan in February, down 99.1% from 23,728 units in the same month last year. That is due to production line retooling for the new generation of SU7, sources within the company confirmed to CarNewsChina.
The new generation SU7 will launch later this month, Xiaomi CEO said, without giving an exact date. Production began in late February, as the first-gen was discontinued, according to CarNewsChina sources who asked to remain anonymous because they are not authorised to speak with the media.

According to a report from 21st Business Herald, Xiaomi plans to produce 16,000 units of the new-generation SU7 in March. The current production volume is roughly 800 units daily, reports say. Xiaomi will start large-scale deliveries right after the launch, as it did with the first-gen SU7 or YU7.
The launch will take place a month earlier than planned, as Xiaomi initially wanted to launch the new-gen SU7 in April, two years after the launch of the first gen.
When SU7 hit the market in April 2024, the starting price was 215,900 yuan (31,300 USD) for the entry-level 700 km CLTC version with a 73.6 kWh battery. The new-gen version went on pre-sale in January at 229,900 yuan, about 6% higher than the previous model. However, it is common in China for the pre-sale price to be slashed upon launch to create the “wow” moment, which Xiaomi particularly loves.
For reference, the Tesla Model 3 starts at 235,500 yuan (34,150 USD) in China. Tesla’s sedan sold 12,920 units in February, down 31% from the year-ago period. However, because the Chinese New Year is a movable holiday, the comparison is for reference only.

Xiaomi delivered 411,837 cars in 2025 and plans to achieve an annual goal of 550,00 cars in 2026. Aside from the SU7 sedan, it also sells the YU7 SUV and will add a new EREV, a massive 3-row SUV, later this year.
