The Tank brand under Great Wall Motor has launched the Tank 500 Black Warrior special edition in China, priced from 365,000 yuan (50,600 USD). The model is limited to an initial batch of 500 units and continues the factory-developed “Black Warrior” styling theme.

Narrowing cost gap

The Black Warrior variant is based on the existing Tank 500 and introduces a factory-integrated full black exterior package. Components include blacked-out headlamps, grille, wheels, side steps, roof rails, and trim pieces, combined with red brake callipers.

Unlike aftermarket modifications, the package is officially registered and compliant, allowing standard road use and factory warranty coverage.

Design and interior updates

The interior adopts a dual-tone layout with a black upper section and red lower section, complemented by chrome accents. A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a 14.6-inch floating central display remain part of the configuration.

The vehicle retains the same body dimensions as the standard version, with a length of 5078 mm and a wheelbase of 2850 mm. Off-road specifications include a 29-degree approach angle, 24-degree departure angle, and 210 mm ground clearance.

Powertrain options

Two plug-in hybrid configurations continue unchanged:

  • Hi4-T: 2.0T engine with a single motor and 9-speed hybrid transmission, delivering 300 kW. It uses a 37.1 kWh battery with a WLTC electric range of 110 km and features a non-decoupled four-wheel-drive system.
  • Hi4-Z: 2.0T engine paired with dual motors and a 3-speed DHT system, producing 645 kW. It is equipped with a 59.05 kWh battery and offers a WLTC electric range of 201 km.

Industry push

The Tank 500 is part of Great Wall Motor’s broader expansion in the body-on-frame SUV segment. Within the same lineup, the larger Tank 700 has entered pre-sales in China, starting at around 63,500 USD and positioned above the Tank 500, with features such as LiDAR and a multi-screen cabin.

The Tank 500 itself was introduced earlier with both internal combustion and plug-in hybrid variants, combining traditional off-road construction with electrified powertrains in the domestic market.
