During the 20th anniversary Tencent news conference in China, Nio’s CEO and co-founder William Li stated that in 20 years, autonomous driving technology will be so mature that traffic accidents will become history.

Li was asked a question about how the cars would be different 20 years from now and formulated as 0,0,100. According to Li, 0 stands for zero accidents in 20 years as ADAS systems and self-driving technology will be able to avoid any road risks.

Another 0 stands for zero emissions, not just when driving but also during the car production lifecycle, manufacturing sales, and recycling.

The 100 means that, according to Li, all cars in 20 years will be smart cars with advanced artificial intelligence and computational power. No dumb cars in the streets anymore.

China is the country with the highest number of car accidents in the world. Last year, over 61,000 people died in traffic accidents in China, according to local media, mostly because of speeding or fatigue. By the end of September 2023, the China Ministry of Public Security reported there were 430 million cars and over 500 million drivers in China.
