Spy shots of Nio’s third brand, Firefly, have recently been exposed in China. The photos released today reveal the side-profile of Nio’s soon-to-be unveiled pure electric compact car. Previous photos showed only the front and rear, this is the first time seeing the side of the model.

Earlier this month, Firefly interior spy photos were also leaked. The car is expected to be first officially shown at this year’s Nio Day, which will be held in Guangzhou on December 21st.

The car is rumored to feature a bold design with ‘highly recognizable’ front and rear designs, a departure from the sleek Nio and Onvo models. The model is expected to be similarly sized and shaped to the Mini Cooper and Volkswagen ID.3. From the leaked image, we get confirmation of a hatchback style vehicle—similar to the five-door Mini Cooper.

For reference the Mini Cooper is a five-door hatchback that measures 4036/1744/1454 mm, with a 2495 mm wheelbase. The Volkswagen ID.3 is an electric family car measuring at 4261/1887/1568 mm, with a 2765 wheelbase.

Earlier this month, Firefly interior spy photos were leaked. The dashboard adopts a minimalist style, with a rounded-rectangular steering wheel and floating full-LCD instrument cluster and center screen. Notably, there is no secondary console under the central screen, allowing direct connection between driver and passenger sides. It’s unclear if this design is final.

According to previous reporting, Nio CEO William LI stated that the first Firefly model will be delivered in the first half of 2025. The brand will share a domestic sales network with Nio and serve the same premium tier market that Nio serves, akin to Mini and BMW. Li has stated the starting price will be within the range of 100,000 yuan to 200,000 yuan (14,000 USD to 27,600 USD).
