The first images of Xiaomi‘s upcoming YU7 SUV roof have surfaced, revealing an eye-catching variable panoramic roof with a distinctive purple hue. While detailed specifications remain undisclosed, the new model is expected to inherit the exceptional sun protection technology that has distinguished the SU7 sedan.
The current Xiaomi SU7 features an impressive 5.35m² of glass area providing panoramic visibility while incorporating advanced solar protection. Its dual-silver-coated panoramic roof blocks 99.9% of UV rays and 99.1% of infrared radiation, while the triple-silver-coated windshield blocks 99.5% of UV and 97.6% of infrared.
According to Xiaomi’s internal testing, after 1.5 hours of exposure to 38°C (100°F) temperatures, the SU7’s cabin reached 59.5°C compared to 71.5°C in a refreshed Tesla Model 3—a significant 12°C difference.
The SU7’s roof employs a sophisticated construction consisting of “2.0mm clear glass with dual silver coating + middle film with 2% heat-insulating gray membrane + 2.0mm clear glass with Low-e coating.” This combination of dual silver coating and Low-e technology effectively reflects infrared radiation while the 2% heat-insulating film enhances thermal insulation, achieving a Total Solar Transmittance (TTS) of just 12.3%.
When asked by owners whether additional window tinting is necessary, Xiaomi has advised that no additional film is required for the vehicle, as its comprehensive glass treatment—including acoustic laminated side windows with UV-IR coating—already provides exceptional sun protection while enhancing cabin acoustics.
The YU7 SUV is scheduled for launch in June or July 2025, with its variable roof system likely to be a standout feature combining aesthetic appeal with practical solar protection.
