Huawei’s Aito M8 launched in China for 48,960 USD – got 140,000 orders

The Aito M8 full-size range-extended crossover was launched in China with a starting price of 359,800 yuan (48,960 USD). This SUV with over 1,500 km of mixed range had gotten over 140,000 orders before its sales kicked off. Available in three trim levels, it is ready to shake the local market.

Aito is a joint brand under Seres and Huawei. Last year, its sales skyrocketed in China thanks to the launch of the M9 flagship SUV. However, Aito started 2025 weak by selling 40,362 units from January to March, according to China EV DataTracker. It is 51% less than in Q1 2024. Aito clearly needed a new driver to once again aggressively boost its sales. Therefore, the company launched the M8 crossover.

Aito M8 exterior & dimensions

The Aito M8 stays close to the M9 flagship SUV in terms of exterior styling. It has a similar body shape with a flat roofline and a high bonnet. Both cars have a LiDAR sensor on the roof. Moreover, the Aito M8 is almost as big as the M9. It measures 5190/1999/1795 mm with a wheelbase of 3105 mm. It is just 40 mm shorter than the M9. However, the Aito M8 has distinguishing headlights and taillights. Its taillight unit integrates ISD interactive LED panels that can project images and text.

Thanks to a sleek front end and retractable door handles, the Aito M8 boasts a drag coefficient of 0,259 Cd. It is a decent number for a large crossover. For comparison, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has a drag coefficient of 0.28 Cd. The lower drag coefficient translates into longer-range and quieter high-speed rides. The Aito M8 rides on R20 or R21 wheels. This family driver has six color body color options to choose from: black, green, white, red, blue, and silver.

Aito M8 interior

The interior of the Aito M8 has two seat layout variants. The first offers two rows with five seats. The second option is a six-seat car with three rows. The Aito M8 buyer can choose from four interior shades: red, brown, white, and orange. Similar to the Aito M9, the new SUV has a triple screen in the center console. It comprises a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch main screen, and a 16-inch front passenger monitor. The Aito M8 also supports an augmented reality head-up display with a picture of 68 inches. This system is powered by the Huawei OS4.

The second-row seats of the six-seat Aito M8 adopt a bunch of high-end functions. They include 10-point massage, heating, and ventilation. Moreover, these captain chairs support a zero-gravity mode. The five-seat variant doesn’t have all of these fancy functions. However, it has a 9-liter storage under the second-row seats. Each version of the Aito M8 can be equipped with an optional projector for the rear passengers. Another highlight of the M8’s cabin is the Huawei Sound system with 19 speakers. There is also a 7.3-liter fridge.

The Aito M8’s driving assistance system comprises one 192-line LiDAR, six mm-wave radars, eleven cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The six-seat Aito M8 comes standard with 353 liters of trunk space. It can be expanded to 1,284 liters. The five-seat car offers a 976-liter trunk as standard. With rear seats folded, its volume reaches 2,348 liters.

Aito M8 powertrain and prices

The new SUV is powered by a dual-motor 4WD with a peak power of 392 kW (526 hp). Under the hood, this SUV has a 1.5-liter turbocharged range extender. The battery is either LFP or ternary NMC with a capacity of 37 kWh or 53.4 kWh. The CLTC range is 201 km and 310 km, respectively. The mixed range reaches 1,405 km or 1,526 km, respectively.
