This is the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX – the sportier version of the Volkswagen ID.3, at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. The new car will be offered in a standard and a performance trim once launched in China.

In the exterior, the overall design of the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX remains largely unchanged from the current model. The headlight group is connected by a through-type LED light strip with the Volkswagen logo in the middle that can be lit up, paired with a trapezoidal grille at the bottom. From the side, the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX version runs on 20-inch five-spoke rims.

In the rear, the large GTX logo cannot be missed, indicating the identity of the vehicle. The SAIC-Volkswagen logo can also be seen on the lower left. Furthermore, it is worth pointing out that the performance trim will be equipped with a Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system in which the electronically controlled shock absorbers can react to road conditions and the driving situation in milliseconds and automatically adjust the damping characteristics, according to Volkswagen.

Coming into the interior, red stitching can be seen throughout. The 12.9-inch central control screen also comes with a built-in GTX red theme display interface. At the same time, the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX still adopts the flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel as the current model.

Power is expected to come from a rear electric motor that outputs either 282 hp or 322 hp for the standard and performance trim, respectively. The 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time is 6 seconds and 5.6 seconds, respectively; and the top speed is 180 km/h and 200 km/h. Matched with a 79 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, the WLTP cruising range is 604 km.

In comparison, the domestic Volkswagen ID.3 currently on sale in China is powered by a 125 kW (168 hp) rear electric motor. In March, 5,601 units of the Volkswagen ID.3s were sold in China. Will the introduction of the GTX version further boost sales?

At this time, SAIC-Volkswagen has not yet announced the detailed specs. We’ll watch closely for more info.
