Leapmotor‘s upcoming B01 electric sedan is poised to become another market sensation following the remarkable success of its B10 SUV. Unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show, the B01 combines sophisticated design with competitive pricing that could disrupt the mid-range electric sedan market.

The B10 SUV has already proven that Leapmotor’s formula works. In just 13 days since its launch (as of April 22), factory deliveries exceeded 8,000 units, with production expected to reach 10,000 vehicles by the end of April. This phenomenal performance stems from the B10’s compelling package: 510km range, LiDAR technology, and Qualcomm 8650 autonomous driving chip paired with an 8295 cockpit processor.

The B01 sedan, built on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 electrical architecture, features dimensions of 4770mm/1880/1490 in l/w/h and a 2735mm wheelbase—comparable to the Xpeng Mona 03 and GAC Aion RT. Production is scheduled to begin in July.

Officially described as “the most beautiful intelligent sedan in the 150,000 yuan (21,000 USD) class,” the B01 showcases a fluid design with a sleek 17.2° fastback angle. Its aerodynamic profile achieves an impressive 0.197 Cd drag coefficient, lower than the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

The exterior features a continuous light strip across the front fascia, complemented by split daytime running lights and generous piano black trim for a premium feel. Eight body colours are available, including a distinctive “Morgan Pink” that incorporates manganese elements to create a dynamic light effect under sunlight.

The B01’s interior rivals that of vehicles in the 200,000 yuan (27,600 USD) range. It features 88% soft-touch coverage throughout the cabin. Available in purple or grey colour schemes, it features cloud-textured leather and chrome accents on air vents, armrests, and other touchpoints.

The vehicle offers excellent space utilisation with an 86% “space efficiency rate” and rear seats that recline to 28° and split 60:40. The trunk provides 460l of standard capacity, expandable by approximately 70l through an adjustable partition system.

The cabin houses a 14.6-inch 2.5K high-definition central control screen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, likely powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155/8295 chips. Advanced driver assistance systems are expected to mirror the B10’s offerings, with mid-range and higher trims featuring LiDAR and Qualcomm 8650 chips. Battery options should provide ranges of approximately 500km and 600km.

Leapmotor attributes its success to understanding young buyers’ priorities: aesthetics first, followed by features. The company identified a gap in the 150,000 yuan (21,000 USD) electric sedan market, where pure electric ride-sharing vehicles, fuel-efficient plug-in hybrids, and compact city cars have dominated.

While officially positioned in the “150,000 yuan (21,000 USD) class,” industry trends suggest the B01’s starting price will fall below the B10’s 99,800 yuan (13,600 USD) entry point. Analysts predict it could start as low as 88,800 yuan (12,200 USD), creating significant pressure on its competitors.
